'MOCK' HEARINGS: PRACTICAL SKILLS DAY Our Mock Hearings have been a great success. All Delegates are given case scenarios which they have to present to a Mock Board consisting of relevant experts on the Day. Delegates are given the opportunity to take a written examination and are also assessed on the day as to their practical presentation skills. Those who pass both the written examination and practical assessment are given the Institute's 'OK LOGO' which can be used on advertising and stationary to convey their qualification to clients. Six CPD poins per day, £249.99 +VAT including Lunch. 1. PAROLE / RECALL HEARINGS: LONDON MAY 2008. CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCY IN PRISON LAW For the last four years the Institute of Prison Law has operated its acclaimed Ceritificate of Competency in Prison Law course, success on which leads to the award of the Institute's 'OK Logo'.
Hundreds of lawyers and Prison Service Officers and Governors have already benefitted from this course - but don't take our word for how good it is, just read what one recent graduate wrote in an unsolicited testimonial: John Weate, Solicitor & Partner, Roberts Moore Nicholas Jones. Wirral, Cheshire. (2006) "I am a senior solicitor with Higher Rights in Crime. For some time it has been obvious that most firms have a gap in the service that they provide to their criminal clients. I looked at and became interested in the problems that clients have whilst in prison and working through their sentence. I went on a simple one day course which enlightened me to the possibilities in such work. This course sparked my interest and I began to help my firm's criminal clients as best I could. I then heard of the new Certificate of Competency in Prison Law and discovered that this was a 12 month course very much going into the detail of this area of work. I signed up and completed the course in December, 2005. "In all the years of study I found this course to be one of the most worthwhile. I have been able to develop a Prison Law Department and over the course of 1 year it has grown to 3 full time fee earners and two part timers. If firms with criminal franchises want to develop and grow then I would recommend this course for those who would wish to become involved in providing the after-care service to sentenced criminal clients." Recommendations don't come any better than that. The course is delivered in two formats: Attended and Distance Learning.
