THE EDITOR
MARK LEECH
MARK LEECH is the Founder and former Chief Executive of the national ex-offenders charity UNLOCK - earlier he spent almost 20 years inside 62 of Britain's prisons where his experiences made him a passionate spokesman for penal reform; in 1989 while still in prison he became prisons correspondent for The Guardian newspaper. Mark has been the Editor of The Prisons Handbook since its very first edition in 1995 - the same year that he was released from prison - and in 2003 he also became its publisher.
Mark is the Director of the Institute of Prison Law, a Law Society and Bar Council accredited training body specialising in prisoners' rights and prison law; his critically acclaimed autobiography 'A Product of the System' was published in 1992 and won first prize in that year's Chambers-Cox Literary Awards.
